Vice Versa: May 7, 2019: 30 years ago today…

Original recording from Pinebrook Studios of “Forever and a Day”.

On May 7th, 1989, I walked into Pinebrook Recording Studio in Alexandria, IN with my first real band, Vice Versa. We had won some recording time by competing in a local Battle of the Bands contest and were all fired up about the opportunity to record our own songs in a professional recording studio for the very first time. We were just five kids, aged 17-18, and all Seniors at three local High Schools.

Guitarist, Warren Bullock and I were about to graduate from Shenandoah High School (Go Raiders!), vocalist, Michael Crider and drummer Drew Herche, we’re finishing up at Highland High School, and keyboardist, Barry Moffitt was the Salutatorian at Pendleton Heights. We were all bound for college the following Fall with three of us heading to Ball State University and the two smart guys (Barry & Warren) going to Rose-Hulman Institute Of Technology.

Like a lot of bands, the lineup changed around over time, and I don’t mean to slight any of the other 5-6 guys I can think of who were a part of that band through the years. I just wanted to commemorate that one day 30 years ago in “band history” and recognize the guys who were there at that moment.

So without any further ado, enjoy the track, “Forever and a Day” in all of its over processed, analog glory. Sure, it sounds dated, and maybe a little cheesy but I’d say it’s not too bad for a 30 year old song written and recorded by a handful of long haired high school kids in the 80s.

  2. So awesome! Was this the recording studio in Anderson, Indiana where The Gaithers would record their albums? I worked there and with them in the late 80’s. Enjoy your reads!

  3. Thanks David! Luckily, I converted all of my analog recordings to digital format many years ago. Thanks for your comment and your support. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

  4. Thanks for the comment and for reading my stuff. It was recorded at Pinebrook in Alexandria which is where The Gather’s recorded. Sounds like you may have worked there at the time because this was recorded in May of 1989.
