“Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D)” is a hit with both fans and the box office

Producers, James Cameron and singer-songwriter, Billie Eilish have teamed up as co-producers to bring Eilish’s latest tour, “Hit Me Hard and Soft” to movie theaters for fans to enjoy in 3D. The tour which concluded in November of 2025 made a stop in Manchester, England for four consecutive nights in July where the concert special was filmed.
The 114 minute film grossed $26 million over its 45 day theatrical run worldwide although most theaters ran it for much shorter time periods. Locally, at Muncie’s AMC 12 it was featured for just one week. When the two Billie Eilish fans in my house (or Eyelashes as I like to call her fan base) heard of this, they insisted that I take them. After all, they have every piece of Billie Eilish merchandise you can imagine, including all four varieties of her fragrance line. I guess I really did owe it to myself to go check out the hype.

To say I’m a Billie Eilish fan myself would be an overstatement but I do enjoy her music and respect her talent not only as a singer-songwriter but also as an entertainer. I’m most familiar with her tune, “Bad Guy” and have definitely had it at the top of my “lawnmower playlist” since the song was released in 2019.
Her popularity speaks for itself through her many accolades including two Academy Awards, ten Grammy Awards, nine American Music Awards, twenty Guinness World Records, eight MTV Video Music Awards, four Brit Awards, and two Golden Globe Awards. She is the second artist and only female in Grammy history to win all four general field categories: Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist in a singular ceremony. She is also the youngest winner of both Album of the Year and Record of the Year and the first person born in the 21st century to win both a Grammy Award and an Academy Award, and the youngest two-time winner of the latter.

Billie Eilish fans are loyal, dedicated and share a deep connection to her and each other through her music. Sure, she’s a female star of popular music but not what comes to mind when you hear the term “female popstar”. Rather than churning out formula driven, bubble-gum, ear candy, she teams with her brother Finneas to write their takes on serious topics like female empowerment, mental health, vulnerability, and the dark side of fame.

This all comes together perfectly in her, “Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D)” concert film. From the opening with her 2024 hit, “Chihiro” through the closing number, “Birds of a Feather”, the crowd is on their feet screaming, crying, and singing along with every lyric.

Through the use of his 17 camera, 3D shoot, James Cameron does a fantastic job of bringing the theatre audience directly into the live concert experience. The behind the scenes footage breaks up the show with some documentary like interview segments with Eilish and the concert goers as well.

It’s safe to say that Billie Eilish’s music serves as an emotional lifeline for many of her listeners. Fans consistently share that her raw, vulnerable lyrics help them process trauma, combat feelings of isolation, and embrace their authentic selves.

I think Alice hits the nail on the head and I agree totally. I haven’t watched any film in 3D for quite a while and seeing a concert in that format was interesting to say the least. It really did make me feel like I was there in the arena.- so much so that more than once I found myself trying to see around a guys head that I thought was in front of me even though we literally had the entire theater to ourselves.

For me, I think that was the best part. When is the last time you had an entire movie theater for just you and your friends and family? It was like we had our own private screening party and all we had to do was wait until everyone else in Muncie had already seen it. The girls sang along at the top of their lungs, danced in the aisles, and tried out the view from every angle. I’ll admit that they did drag me up front to show off a few of my old white guy dance moves but the reclining seats are better suited for my old man knees.
